Ski Shack Classroom Fundraiser

For years, our Ski Shack has been a hub for winter fun and outdoor education. However, the aging building is reaching the end of its lifespan. To ensure our students always have a safe, warm, and inspiring place to learn, BSF is replacing the old structure with a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient classroom.

This modern space will allow us to expand our year-round environmental programs, offering students and community groups even more opportunities to connect with nature.

How the New Ski Shack Classroom Impacts Our Community

• Expanded Reach: Welcomes 4,500 students, non-profit groups, and community members each year.
• Year-Round Versatility: Functions as a student classroom, a professional development space for local businesses, and a community gathering spot.
• Eco-Friendly Design: Measures 28’ x 48’ with a covered patio, featuring south-facing windows for solar heating and natural light.
• Safety First: Doubles as a secure storm shelter during severe weather.
• A Lasting Legacy: Built to serve our school district and community for the next 100+ years.

Fundraising for the new Ski Shack Classroom kicked off in December 2025. The grand opening is planned for September 2027.

December 2025 - Present
Fundraising, writing grants, establishing community partnerships, and getting bids.

May 2026
✅ Site cleared and prepped by Eagle Scout candidate and his Troop of volunteers.

June 2026
✅ Work on building designs, meet with key collaborators, and receive approval from the School Board.

September 2026
Finalize architecture plans. Obtain permits and inspector approvals.

March 2027
SPASH Geometry in Construction students build pre-fabricated walls and stain interior paneling at the Woody Building shop in Rothschild.

May 2027
Excavation of the site and pour the basement.

June 2027
All materials arrive. Woodlands Church Spring Into Action and community work days assemble the building.

June - August 2027
Install and hook up HVAC, electrical, and technology. Complete finishing work and trim.

September 2027
Grand opening, recognition of major donors and sponsors, and ribbon-cutting.

There is a long history of student involvement at Boston School Forest including major construction projects. It is exciting to be able to continue that tradition.

BSF is proud to partner with the SPASH Technical Education program to give students in the Geometry in Construction and Fundamentals in Construction classes the opportunity to work alongside professional contractors to build the Ski Shack walls and stain the interior paneling.

Students will apply the skills they’ve learned throughout the year, and this type of hands-on experience can be the spark for a student’s future career. Students will feel a sense of pride and stewardship that their time, talent, and efforts will benefit generations of students to come.

Boston School Forest has been the beneficiary of over 60 past Eagle Scout projects. Two Eagle Scouts have committed to advancing the Ski Shack with their Eagle Scout project. Their time at BSF and the personal growth gained through Scouting will culminate in their leadership of this large-scale project.

Woodlands Church Spring Into Action will assemble the building in late May or early June 2027. This will greatly reduce the labor cost.

Community groups such as Mid-State, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H clubs, Elementary PTOs, and organizations and businesses will be able to reserve the new building.
